Shoreline Buffers

Shoreline buffers, also known as “living shorelines” are a method to protect and preserve lake and river shorelines. A few benefits of a natural shoreline buffer include prevention of erosion and the creation of an aesthetically pleasing shoreline. These shoreline buffers also can help control the presence of “nuisance” animals, such as migratory birds. Read more about shoreline buffers here:  Rain Gardens: A How-to Manual for Homeowners

The Pewaukee River Partnership holds an annual native plant sale, which includes a selection of plants that are well suited for the creation of a shoreline buffer. Choosing native plants over other varieties ensures that the plants are hearty enough to survive our climate and thrive.  There are many flowering native plants that make beautiful additions to any flower garden. These native plants are all perennials or self-seeding and establish strong root systems, resulting in very robust plantings.

If you're looking to start your rain garden, butterfly garden, or shoreline buffer we have an Annual Native Plant Sale each Spring.
